COMMUNICATION

When Communication Becomes a Constant Struggle
When communicating seems to always be a struggle, even a simple conversation can become frustrating. You may feel like you’re not being heard, that every conversation turns into an argument, or that you keep having the same disagreements without making progress.
When communication becomes difficult, it can be hard to know where to begin. Understanding how you approach one another and how you respond during difficult conversations can be an important place to start.
Understanding the Problem
Healthy communication involves more than simply talking. It also involves how we listen, respond, and approach the person we’re communicating with.
TYRO365’s Core Communications program teaches that healthy communication comes down to active listening, emotional intelligence, and speaking in a way that is clear, respectful, and impactful, whether you’re talking with your spouse, your child, a coworker, or anyone else in your life.
This means that when a conversation becomes difficult, it can be helpful to consider not only what the other person is saying, but also how you are responding and what you are trying to accomplish through the conversation.
What Can You Begin to Consider?
As you think about communication in your relationship, consider the following questions:
1. Am I listening to understand, or am I primarily thinking about how I want to respond? Different Sides to the Same Story
2. How do I respond when I feel frustrated or misunderstood? How to Communicate When You Are Angry
3. Am I contributing to a conversation that helps us move forward? Couple Communication Tips
4. What would it look like to approach this conversation differently? How to Avoid an Argument
These questions are intended to help you reflect on your own approach and identify areas where you may be able to grow.
